“New York is cold but I like where I’m living, there’s music on Johnston St all through the evening…”Leonard Cohen
Well if Cohen ~ one of my musical heroes ~ loved the Big Apple then I guess there’s little surprise that I do too. The only oddity I guess being that it took me until my 40s to actually visit this amazing city!
However once I had I was hooked. Pre 40 I’d never been; post I’ve now been three times and counting. And it’s not as if I can just pack up the car and visit. I live in Melbourne, Australia…
Get ready for 7000 words
Well not quite. But ‘they’ say a picture-is-worth-a-thousand-words don’t they. And whilst most of my posts are around 1000 – 1500 words long I’m going to just hand this homage over mostly to my photos.
Besides I have written about this Manhattan muse a few times already…
And I really recommend reading about the time I went out photographing during a NYC heatwave that was so hot my shoes actually melted!
New York through my eyes
I’m not sure if it is actually possible to have a love-affair with a city? Certainly not in a tactile way ~ that just summons up all kinds of disturbing imagery. But surely it is possible to fall emotionally, spiritually & culturally…
And boy have I ever!
Fallen for NYC’s pulse, vibrancy, people, culture, streets, food and coffee^… (^Just joking about the coffee)
The Big Apple ~ a gallery
I’m all for the eco-credentials of the new hybrid NYC cabs but boy they just don’t photograph like the old gas-chuggers. I was lucky to get a few on my last trip there a few years ago.
There is always an energy in New York. And it comes from the people. And for a shy guy from Australia I love that they don’t seem to care-less if you photograph them. They’re way too busy and I always try to be respectful; keep my distance.
But what about you. Do you love NYC too? What do you love most about this incredible city?
As always ~ thanks for reading!
