Cold Irons Bound have delivered another finely crafted collection of countrified psych on this, their sophomore effort, “ Don’t Lose Your Mind.”

Once again, wearing their collective influences on their sleeves, Don’t Lose Your Mind is a band at the top of their game. This time they have dipped their musical brush into the R.E.M well!
From the one-two opening punch of Highside and Exchange Them For You, through to Straight For The Plains and Some Feeling Back, there is a big nod to the Athens, Georgia legends. And yes we didn’t miss the homage in the video either guys!
The best of the bunch?
The best two songs on the album in my opinion are a couple of slow burners.
Spin The Wheels jolts from a beautiful slow ballad into a lead guitar inferno that would make Lynyrd Skynyrd proud. Medicine Hat hints at a funky Hammond led jam throughout the song, until that is, it spills over into a groove that you just don’t want to end.
No doubt both songs will translate beautifully into the live environment and I can attest to their musicianship and ease on stage having attended the LPs launch.
So to the take-out. Cold Irons Bound are very much like a proverbial ‘fine wine’… getting better with age.

What a great sound they have. I imagine they’d be pretty good to see live. Thanks for the post Scott.
